Ms. International: It's time to start dressing for success!
It might not be the way many people want the world to work, but let's be real if you want people to take you seriously, then you've got to look the part. Whether it's a job interview, a first date, or anything else, dressing for success really can be the perfect way to take the first step towards what you want in life. Now, this doesn't mean that you suddenly need to become fashion obsessed if that's not the person that you are. After all, some people care a lot about that kind of stuff, and some people don't but it's important that you understand how much people's perception of you is impacted by the way that you present yourself. With that in mind, here are a few ways that you can start dressing for success.
Know your "audience".
Most of the time when you choose the clothes that you want to wear, you should do it for you and no one else. You should wear styles that you like and not worry what other people think. However, if you're trying to achieve something specific in life, particularly on a professional level, you should think about the people that you're going to be interacting with and what kind of message you'll be sending with the way you look. For example, If you're going for a job interview, then think about the company itself. If it's a more traditional office space, then a conservative style might be best, but if it's more of a modern workspace then think about ways that you might be able to show that you'll fit in well there. It's not just a matter of looking "smart" you've got to look the part as well.
Coordinate your colours.
Of course, no matter what kind of environment you're in, there are a few things that are pretty much always true apply, one of those is that you need to make sure that you're coordinating your colours properly. If you show up for any event or occasion wearing clothes that are ridiculously mismatched it may not go down well. The best way to avoid this is to educate yourself on things like colour theory and the way different patterns work together. It's not especially complex or difficult to learn, but it really can make a huge difference to how much of a positive impact your clothing choices can have on the way you're perceived.
Make your wardrobe versatile.
One thing that a lot of people fail to understand is just how important it is to have a versatile wardrobe. A lot of people will have their everyday clothes, their comfortable clothes, and then they might have a single "smart" outfit for professional purposes. However, if you really want to start dressing for success, then you've got to think more complexly about the way that your wardrobe functions. You need outfits that can cover a whole range of situations, from daytime to evening, smart to casual. Everything from lace tops to smart shirts and formal jackets needs to be represented in your wardrobe. Being able to dress across the entire spectrum means that you're never going to be in a position where you're not sure what to wear or what would look best.
Be subtle with your accessories.
Accessories can be an amazing way to help you add some flair and interest to your outfit, but there are a time and a place for things that are incredibly bold and attention-grabbing. If you're in any kind of professional setting, then the best thing that you can do is to keep your accessories subtle. The key is to use accessories that add to your outfit rather than ones that distract from it. Now, this doesn't mean that you can't add some flair to your outfits and often doing so can really improve them but if you go too far then you're going to end taking attention away from your outfit or clashing with it altogether. It's a delicate balance but one that can be incredibly effective if you get it right.
You might be thinking that this all sounds a little bit shallow, but the reality is that this is the world we live in. Thankfully we're finally moving away from a world in which a woman's worth is entirely defined by her looks, but sadly we're not totally there yet. Men and women can both benefit in their lives by looking the part when it comes to trying to go after what they want. No matter what the occasion is, make sure that you always dress for success!
