It’s one of those elusive ideas that most adults struggle with, Sleep. It sounds so simple, so easy, but when it comes down to it, sleep is hard to come by. Adequate sleep is necessary for an adult to be able to function and have the right energy for the day ahead. With life being as busy as it is, with work, family and studying, the simple concept of sleeping becomes something difficult. A bad night’s rest can impact your entire day, so it’s important to understand the best ways for you to go to sleep.

Did you know that a lack of sleep can greatly affect your health? Without the right amount of sleep, your reaction times are slower, you’re at a higher risk of long-term disease and this can affect your everyday life. If you are struggling with your sleep, then these few tips might help. 


  • Force worry - The moments after getting into bed are the time we tend to dwell on our worries. It’s the time we spend thinking and over thinking about what is going on in our lives. Choosing to spend a 15 minute window at an earlier time of day to just worry about what’s going on in your life may seem counterproductive, but actually it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself. Allowing yourself a moment to just think about your problems with a clear head can help you sleep sounder at night time as you’ve already worked through your issues.

  • Consider therapies -  Don't get worried by the thought! It's not as bad as it sounds, whether you decide to talk to someone to work through why you aren’t sleeping at night, or you choose to go for remedial massage therapy, therapy is one of the best ways to get some rest. Massage therapy can help break down tensions in your body you may not have even been aware of and talking to someone can work through worries that are keeping you up at night.

  • Valerian root - This is a natural supplement to help you go to sleep. I believe that anything that is derived naturally is always a better alternative to help get you to sleep at night rather than over the counter medicines and valerian root is a herb that has been proven just as effective.

  • Observe your bed - If you are sleeping on a bed that is broken, or with an old and lumpy mattress, it may be time for a change. You need to be well-rested to sleep at night and changing your mattress can make a huge difference. Your mattress should keep you supported and those that are tired and old can cause terrible back pain and make you feel even more exhausted.

  • Reduce stress - Stress manifests itself physically as well as mentally, and you should combat that stress as soon as possible so that you can sleep better at night. It may take some trial and error to figure it out, but your stress levels being lowered can contribute a lot towards changing your sleeping pattern.
